How to Find the Perfect Fit for Shoes
If you have a hard time fitting your feet or are having trouble buying the right shoes, read on for nine tips on how to buy the perfect pair of shoes.

1. Buy Shoes at the End of the Day
Your feet swell throughout the day, meaning the best time to go shopping for a pair is after work or in the afternoon.

2. Buy Shoes That are Comfortable Right From the Start
You shouldn't have to "break in" a good pair of shoes. Instead of settling for a pair of shoes that are just a little too snug, hold out for a pair that fits right from the start. Remember, no matter how cute or stylish a pair of shoes may be, you'll never wear them if they're not comfortable.

3. Size Isn't Everything
When buying shoes, you should focus on how they fit, not the size number. If the size 8 is more comfortable, don't pass it up simply because you're "always a size seven."

4. Buy for Your Arches
If your foot has a high arch, then look for a shoe that has a nicely cushioned midsole. This will help absorb shock and support your arch. If you have a flatter foot or low arch, look for midsoles that offer firmer support.

5. Buy a Flexible Sole
The best shoes are ones with flexible soles made from rubber or leather. Rigid soles won't move with your feet and will constrict you as you walk, leading to major foot pain.

6. If You Need To, Buy Specialty
If you have a wide, narrow, petite or oversized foot, then try buying from specialty retailers.

7. Dress for Shoe Shopping
If you're buying a pair of shoes for a particular outfit, wear it go shoe shopping. The last thing you want is to buy a pair only to get home and realize they're too short for that perfect pair of long jeans.

8. Get the Heel for the Part
If you're planning on spending a lot of time on your feet, you may want a shoe with a lower heel or a wedge heel, which will provide more support.

9. Understand European Sizing
If you don't know your European shoe size, ask the clerk for help. Alternatively, if you're a size 9 or less, just add 31 to your size. If you're over a size 10, add 32.
